The ORCA Hub: Explainable Offshore Robotics through Intelligent Interfaces
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the UK Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Hub for Offshore Robotics for Certification of Assets (ORCAHub), a 3.5 year EPSRC funded, multi-site project. The ORCA Hub vision is to use teams of robots and autonomous intelligent systems (AIS) to work on offshore energy platforms to enable cheaper, safer and more efficient working practices. The ORCA Hub will research, integrate, validate and deploy remote AIS solutions that can operate with existing and future offshore energy assets and sensors, interacting safely in autonomous or semi-autonomous modes in complex and cluttered environments, co-operating with remote operators. The goal is that through the use of such robotic systems offshore, the need for personnel will decrease. To enable this to happen, the remote operator will need a high level of situation awareness and key to this is the transparency of what the autonomous systems are doing and why. This increased transparency will facilitate a trusting relationship, which is particularly key in high-stakes, hazardous situations.

Robotics software frameworks for multi-agent robotic systems development
Robotics is an area of research inwhich the paradigmofMulti-Agent Systems (MAS) can prove to be highly useful. Multi-Agent Systems come in the form of cooperative robots in a team, sensor networks based on mobile robots, and robots in Intelligent Environments, to name but a few. However, the development of Multi-Agent Robotic Systems (MARS) still presents major challenges. Over the past decade,...
متن کاملWelcome to the Future - How Naïve Users Intuitively Address an Intelligent Robotics Apartment
The purpose of this Wizard-of-Oz study was to explore the intuitive verbal and non-verbal goal-directed behavior of naïve participants in an intelligent robotics apartment. Participants had to complete seven mundane tasks, for instance, they were asked to turn on the light. Participants were explicitly instructed to consider nonstandard ways of completing the respective tasks. A multi-method ap...
متن کاملApplication of a Plug-and-Play Guidance Module for Hospital Robots
This paper explores the design and development of an intelligent plug-nplay guidance module for hospital robots to recover the shortage of healthcare personnel in hospitals and healthcare centres in EU countries. The module is developed by using Orca which is an open-source framework for developing component-based robotic systems. Active RFID system is used in this module to guide patients or v...
متن کاملDynamic Speech Interaction for Robotic Agents
Research in mobile service robotics aims on development of intuitive speech interfaces for human-robot interaction. We see a service robot as a part of an intelligent environment and want to step forward discussing a concept where a robot does not only offer its own features via natural speech interaction but also becomes a transactive agent featuring other services’ interfaces. The provided fr...
